No Holds?

April 29, 2006

I woke up this morning and much to my suprise, my toolkit updated. It now says: Complete. Peace Corps has completed your placement review. There are no holds on your account at this time. I find this a little strange because I'm still not medically cleared or dentally cleared. Maybe this has something to do with the call I got yesterday?

False Alarm

April 28, 2006

My Placement Officer called me a little bit ago and asked if I could leave any earlier than September because she had a position that left in July that matched me perfectly. Unfortunately, I don't finish my undergraduate classes until August 4th so I had to say no.

Fax It

April 28, 2006

I talked to my medical adviser and he said I would be able to fax him my missing BMI form. He also wanted me to fax a summary of the physical that my doctor wrote for me. For all of my doctors patients, he writes a summary of the results. This isn't something required by the Peace Corps. I've read that sending more information than necessary isn't a good idea but this letter mentions Peace Corps service and how there isn't anything the Peace Corps will throw at me that I can't physically handle.

BMI Form

April 27, 2006

I just got a letter from my doctors office that included a medical form. I don't remember including it in the medical packet and I think it was overlooked because it wasn't a standard form (so it wasn't on the checklist). I will be calling the medical office tomorrow to see if they can accept it as a fax.

Toolkit Updated

April 27, 2006

Peace Corps received the results of your physical exam on April 26, 2006. In some cases, Peace Corps may request additional medical information. Please respond quickly to these requests.

Spiders

April 27, 2006

I will be the first to admit it… I'm afraid of spiders. Since I'm going to Africa, I had to do some African spider research. I did some googling where I found this blog entry. It's an entertaining post so it's worth a read.

Placement Assistant

April 26, 2006

Today I was contacted by my Placement Assistant for the Africa Region. She informed me that I would need to fax her a copy of my final transcript as soon as I finished my degree at Bellarmine University.

I feel like the Peace Corps staff is generally on top of things as long as I answer requests in a timely manner. It's nice to get feedback so I don't have to sit around in the dark for months at a time like some other applicants.

New Timeline

April 24, 2006

It seems as though most other Peace Corps bloggers like to post their application timeline. I figured I would do the same.

New Disclaimer

April 20, 2006

There has been a lengthy discussion on bloggers in the Peace Corps over at the yahoo peacecorps2 group. Due to some issues with publishing Peace Corps related information, I have included a disclaimer on this blog. Matt from One Revolution was nice enough to let me use his.

Medical Packet: Sent

April 19, 2006

My doctors finished my physical and psychiatric forms so I picked them up from their respective offices. My lab report shows that my cholesterol is down so I no longer think that should be a problem. There didn't seem to be anything in the labs that should be of concern to me since everything was in the prefered range with the exception of my HDL (good) cholesterol which was only two points off. So, I gathered up all of my medical forms, checked everything twice, dropped them in the envelope, licked the seal and took it to the Post Office. Now comes one of the waiting games… medical clearence.
